Chris Christie-Skating Away..... [View all]
on the not-so-thin ice of the new day. With his 17% approval rating in hand, he's coming home. Slinking out of Trenton, can't wait to see him hanging around town again. He really deserves a Seinfeld-like send off with all eight years of his misdeeds and character flaws laid out in a two-part episode. But our attention has (rightfully) moved on to other things.
But let us not forget Governor Downgrade, taking state helicopters to his kid's baseball game, letting Exxon-Mobil off the hook, squandering billions in Sandy aid, making deals with United Airlines for campaign donations, giving his buddies control of billions in pension funds, and yelling at school teachers and Navy Seals during his staged "town halls". But that's not all! Expensive gifts from Jerry Jones while he was looking for a lucrative Port Authority contract and his "good friend" the King of Jordan. Flying around on Sheldon Adelson's dime, firing a career prosecutor to protect one of his scumbag cronies, putting the screws to a small city mayor to help out his friends, helping his brother out of legal troubles and setting up one of his real estate investments with a multi-million dollar infrastructure investment, cancelling the Hudson River rail tunnels without a Plan B, closing the state beaches on July 4 (except for him and his family) and going to Disneyworld during a blizzard. Is that enough yet?
There were humiliating things like playing the role of Trump's lackey before getting kicked to the side of the road. Who could forget him trying to high-five the Cowboy's owner or that eye-bleach worthy picture in the softball uniform? And I haven't even mentioned that whole "bridge" thing. Bridget Kelly and Bill Baroni certainly won't forget it. You see, you have to EARN a 17% approval rating-it's not just the kind of thing that they hand out to anybody.
You can take stroll down memory lane with the Christie Crime Digest or just try to forget about the last eight years. Either way, the amount of bad things Christie did is just staggering. I guess we dodged the bullet with his failed presidential bid but we still have to live with his legacy here in NJ. Murphy will need a few small (and not so small) miracles to clean up Christie's mess. Seeing his large backside headed out of the State House one last time is a small consolation, but I can't help feeling that he's getting off easy because the people of New Jersey sure aren't. He screws up royally and we pay the price-and he thinks we're going to miss him when he's gone.
