You can quibble about the distinction between mass and weight (they are distinct) but for practical purposes in dealing with comparative measurements of human beings we have to realize three things: 1) the measurements are not so accurate that variations in gravity between Maryland and Texas would be noticeable, 2) health measurements are often weight measurements, not mass (scale measuring force on springs or similar), 3) In a gravitational field that is very close to uniform or is "uniform enough for practical purposes" then weight is effectively a proxy for mass.
Also, the logical implication of what you so carefully wrote is that you have never spoken to anyone outside of the scientific field in any conversation that involved the words "weigh" or "weight".
When you combine fact 1 (you have never heard) with fact 2 (typically said by those not in science), it means that you have not heard those not in science talk about weight.
