Some hardball has seemed beyond the willingness or stomach for my liking, and certainly the liking of many, many people here. A few months ago, I'd have been somewhat apprehensive about a position like what has been suggested bringing out the long knives. Now, I wonder what they think they can do to force Democrats to do anything.

"No negotiations with terrorists" comes to mind, but politics in a "civilized" country turn on negotiations.
