(46,189 posts)51. It is impossible to get a veto proof majority in the Senate in 2018.
The current split is 51-49.
There are 34 Senate seats being voted on in November 2018. Only 8 are currently held by Republicans. So if the Democrats held every one of the 34 they currently held and won every one of the 8 seats held by republicans, the split would be 59-41, well short of the 67 needed for a "veto proof" majority.
