If you witnessed a train wreck, why wouldn't you look at it? It's the same for any other extraordinary event.

If I saw a plane crash, I certainly wouldn't look away. First, it would be a unique event that should be seen by a person so they can relate the experience. That's what journalism and other forms of expression are all about.

Second, my account of this hypothetical event might help investigators understand what happened. This would be especially true if I had the efficiency of mind to use my smart phone to video any part of the experience.

Lastly, human nature seems to have a voyeuristic quality to it. That's why people rubber-neck at accidents on highways. It's why people watch dangerous activities.

I cannot think of a reason that I would look away from a unique experience.
