What might be Mueller's state of mind in all of this? [View all]

I know he is a consummate professional. I know that as a prosecutor, he is a machine. I know he is a straight arrow interested in following facts and doing his job. I know he eschews publicity, preferring to do the job for the job's sake.

But this may well be the singularly most important thing he has ever done in his long and storied career.

Keep in mind, his first charge was finding out if and how the Russians interfered in our elections. Many (me included) see that interference as an actual act of war, the lack of gunpowder notwithstanding. The goal of that act of war is to destabilize our government. Played its logical end, that would involve the end of our country as an independent entity.

That puts Mueller on the point of the lead column marching in our defense.

He is, of course, very aware of this.

I can tell you I am not made of sufficiently strong stuff as to endure such pressure.

So how is that playing in his most private moments?
