(152,103 posts)Some have died, of course. The thing is, there weren't as many of them as you might think there were. They were a small minority of people of that age at that time. They were visible, noisy, untidy, and argumentative. So, people noticed them. But, they were far from a majority, even of people in the same generation.
You talk about the people you encounter in your area. My experience is just the opposite. The people I see aren't like that at all. We see only a small subset of people. I have heard nobody praising Trump in person. Not one. I hang out with a different group, I guess, and live in another place, I suppose.
Beyond age, there is nothing true you can say about old people in general. The old hippies are still old hippies. They're around, but they're no longer visibly different, noisy, untidy or argumentative, necessarily. I know number of them. They're politically active. They speak and write and engage in political activism, but more quietly and less visibly.
Many are right here on DU and on other discussion areas. They post on Facebook, Twitter, etc., too, countering idiocy when it makes sense to do that.
Some of them are in public office, elected to sit in those seats. Others are in government employment. They're everywhere, and all around you. You're just not seeing them.
