While probably the best proof of US citizenship, your passport does not have your current address to give proof of residency. I got a passport after 9/11, as I thought passports would become more expensive and more difficult to obtain. I use mine a couple times a year to return to the US after visiting Canada. I feel like I'm living in a foriegn country too.
