4. The flip side is I know of a chap who was fired for sending out a memo criticising unionizing...

It was back in the late 70's, as I recall. I was at a social function, and this chep, who I didn't know well, shared with me a memo he had written that was pretty harsh about an attempt by other employees to unionize. He seemed very proud of it. I asked him if he'd already sent it out. When he said yes, I really didn't have the heart to tell him what a mistake that was.

Sure enough, I ran into him again and he was all indignant that he'd been canned. I don't know if his memo was the cause, but it seemed more than coincidental. He also may have irritated management with his general personality. Again, I didn't find much to say, but privately I felt his firing was probably justified.

Firebrands of any political stripe generally don't last too long in corporate America.
