I live in the Washington, D.C., area and worked in Manhattan for nine years, but I grew up in a tiny town in the Midwest. Life was much slower there and still is. Actually, there were quite a few people who were at least partially of Scandinavian descent. Of my best friends, one was all Swedish heritage, one was one quarter of the same, and the other was half Norwegian. Sometimes I wonder if some cultural ideas survive even three generations here in the U.S., because it is unusual in an ethnically mixed area to have close friends of the same or similar background.
I wonder if increased Norwegian wealth has to do with your oil and gas production. Mineral extraction can really help an economy. States here with coal, oil and gas did well while the extraction continues. All I can say is don't spend all the money at once! But then I expect that Norway is being wise with its wealth.
