46. There are different types of open carriers IMO

1. The rural outdoor worker who has a legit need to be able to draw fast to protect themselves or property. The first open carriers I saw were in AZ in the 1980s. They were real cowboys who came into town. They used their revolvers for personal and property protection. They mostly had lever actions in the pick-up trucks, but a few ARs and, surprising to me before I knew much about the rifles, SKSs.

2. The disciplined poltical open carrier. They open carry to demonstrate on behalf of their 2nd Amendment rights and are fairly organized and self-policing. They might be RW militias, new Black Panthers, or open carry organizations, and they might worry folks but they don't short anyone.

3. The suburban or urban carrier who is carrying concealed, but temporarily feels unsafe and untucks their shirt to display holstered handguns. I see this at ATM and gas stations in my small southern city. There aren't many of these but there have been cases where carriers unholstered and/or shot without justification but not often.

4. The eff-you because I can yahoo. They show up at various places to demonstrate, look unsafe, carry unsafe, and look disorganized. These are the ones that are most worrisome to me, but I can't say that I've heard of very many problems.
