(10,500 posts)Before I start, let me point out the Indiana and especially Missouri are better examples IMO of states that might have flipped than Florida is. Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and North Carolina are definitely ones that would have gone Democrat.
I think that it is tempting to think that in a way we are better off avoiding another assault on democracy through gerrymandering. The problem is that the Supreme Court is waging an all-out assault on democracy of their own. And that could lead to problems down the line, when a Democrat gets into the White House in 2020.
And, of course, having Trump in the White House, and treated as legitimate, will have a terrible effect on the Republican mind for many years to come. So will the fact that they won the "lock-her-up" election. It is terrifying that the GOP won an election in which they called for their political opponent to be imprisoned--and their base still genuinely wants that.
