(58,785 posts)your power as a citizen by not doing your best to keep it from falling into the hands of the wrong people. What you call a "protest" vote was power you refused to use to protect our nation from them.
All political power comes from the people and ends up in the control of those elected to office. That's why fortunes are spent every day to try to affect our decisions on one day every two years.
If you hadn't voted at all, your citizen power would still have benefited the right wing in the election. And once in office, it would still have been used by them for everything you don't want. As it was and is.
My citizen power is in their control now and being used to achieve their evil ends. But at least I tried my best to keep it out of their hands by voting for the person who had an excellent chance of defeating them.
