(343 posts)Briefly, my parents moved when I was 10 to a shit neighborhood to be close to my grandma. She passed away shortly after they moved, but then my dad refused to leave. My parents lived there for 45 years. The neighborhood never got any better. It was the same shit hole 45 years later it was the day we moved in. My dad fought with the neighbors for years and years. And these were criminal neighbors. Guns, fights, cops, drugs, you name it. When I was a kid once I was on the porch and suddenly there were cops running across our lawn to jump the fence and arrest the people behind us.
What did my father get after 45 years of fighting with them, calling the cops, keeping loaded guns in the house? (shotguns in back closet and by the bed, handgun in the closet by the bed, all loaded and us kids instructed on how to fire them). What did he get? Nothing. Nothing changed. All we got as a family was endless turmoil and feeling threatened in our home. I was attacked. My dad was attacked and punched. Even my poor dog suffered, as a neighbor tried to choke him with his chain. His collar slipped or he would have been dead. I begged my parents to move. For years. But dad would not leave. When he passed away, and then my mother, us kids finally sold the house. I have never been back. Moving is hard. It can be difficult. But staying in a bad situation with rotten neighbors is no win. Take it from me, I lived it.
