(7,715 posts)Amazon announced this week it was buying Ring for $1 billion. I know some folks may not like that, but it means the system is going to be around a long time. The system is great, because you don't need to run wires etc. You need to be able to charge the camera every three weeks or so via a USB port, or get the solar power add-on. That's the ONLY maintenance involved.
As long as you have a good WiFi signal that reaches the camera, you can place it anywhere (e.g., tree etc). The camera(s) will alert you about motion via a smartphone app and will record and give you live views. They also have combined motion detector lights and cameras.
I know I sound like a paid spokesperson for Ring (that's actually Shaquille O'Neal!). I am just very happy with the system, and I was up and running with a four camera/video doorbell system in a matter of minutes. That's no exaggeration.
And again, make sure you signpost the video surveillance, whatever system you have. That will help with your neighbor, plus thieves.
Like I said earlier, you should be able to put whatever political sign you want in YOUR own house. I wouldn't move, either, unless YOU want to move. Don't be afraid, but also don't be silly or careless.
Best strategy to me is total avoidance, surveillance, motion detector lights and an alarm system, plus warning signs at key locations. A dog would complete the suite!
