(3,922 posts)I am becoming increasingly resigned to the long haul which will hopefully culminate in 2020.
Regarding the Stormy Daniels affair: the republicans and the #IPOTUS's base don't care. I think public opinion has basically concluded that this story is true, but - barring a credible expose of the harassment charges - this appears to be going nowhere fast. The election contribution violation theory is out there, but again, I don't see this as being enough to rid ourselves of the cancer.
The Mueller investigation: This one has some legs but this is far from over - some experts say that this could actually extend to after 2020! If the #IPOTUS is not directly implicated in a conspiracy or obstruction charge, this will go nowhere as well. Still, it's the best chance for a meaningful action - someday.
In the meantime, the economy could change for the worse and that seems to still be one of the most reliable motivations for voters. But who wants this? Many of us are getting older and depend on a relatively stable economy.
As we wait for something, anything, we are watching the country we love go to hell in a handbasket. The ruling party is doing exactly what they said they would do - dismantling civil liberties, safety nets, and changing the culture. Additionally, they are changing the dynamics of the fiscal health of the country, clearly for the worse. This will have long-lasting effects on all of us and could easily precipitate another republican economic crisis, which is their specialty.
The supporters of this clusterf#$k, once fringe voters, are emboldened and are clearly entering the mainstream in all areas of the society and culture.
Dark days for now, but things will/must change eventually.
