(41,564 posts)I'm talking about the executives who made the huge bonuses, not the line reporters and anchors who worked their butts off. Anyone connected with Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes, and most of the major newspaper chains and cable network news were all quietly rooting for Trump. They did it by giving him free coverage and free airtime with mostly softball questions from reporters, as I stated earlier.
Without a doubt it has been shown that the major US news outlets gave him the benefit of the doubt, by assuming "equivalence" where no such equivalence existed. When it was time to endorse candidates - usually within a week before the election - they all showed their true colors. Most endorsed Trump outright, or else they abstained from endorsining either candidate saying there are good things/bad things about both.
We have talked about the Facebook/Twitter/social media sins to exhaustion here on DU. It's time to do the same for the major US news outlets. They favored Trump because they sold a shit-ton of advertising and gave him most of the credit for it. The US media companies are big businesses, and the executives all made their huge bonuses on the whopping ad sales in 2016. (At least some of it was Russian money.)
