Most smokers I know are don't need to be lectured about the dangers of tobacco. They're aware that smoking causes cancer, but for some reason, they're convinced that THEY won't get cancer. They never can explain why, but they've managed to convince themselves that it will never happen to them.
Same thing with Republicans. Most of them know what they stand for, but just like smokers, they've managed to convince themselves that this will affect other people, not themselves.
