Or Reid could have gotten the information from McCain, and confirmed it with someone else who has ties to Bain.

It is not uncommon for sourcing to be done thusly. One guy could be talking and giving an interview about some crapola going on about a political issue, and they could be cited in such a way as to make the reader think that the person is more than one individual.

Examples:

A Senior Administration Official

State Department sources

A Source Close to the Pentagon

A Former Military leader

All of those could be Colin Powell under Dubya's regime.

Similarly, these stories can be written to make several people look like one person (the most famous of whom was "Deep Throat"--most of his stuff came from Mark Felt...but not all).


McCain knows the game, and so does Reid. A "Bain investor" could be a guy who bought ten reams of paper at Staples--if you want to be very loose with the term!
