(82,849 posts)It really discombobulates the political press to have to cover the complete inability of Republicans to hold a government together and get anything done except craven obeisances to their wealthy overlords. "Democrats in disarray" and "Oh, those hapless libruls!" are so much more familiar, so much more comfortable. This narrative easily translates to the rest of the party, and Democrats can look forward over the next 4½ months to explaining how, in reality, they're quite unified and have a cogent, coherent platform. If the political press ever paid the least bit of attention or could tear themselves away from their security blanket of the familiar.
Luckily for the political press, the Republicans are quite happy to see them concentrate on the difficulties of a tiny minority on the left. And there are plenty of Democrats who will gleefully pile on, then come September or October wonder why the press narrative is still so stuck on "Democrats in Disarray," instead of reporting on what the Democrats have to offer voters. (Spoiler alert: It's because you're helping them set the narrative now.)
