But then moved to one of the suburbs. It’s a great park with a children’s Fairyland, canoeing, and the place to jog all hours of the day right in the middle of Oakland. It’ surrounded by hundreds of apartment buildings and high rise business buildings as well as the Superior Court. It ‘s the very first bird sanctuary in the United States and has a great variety of birds, migrating and strictly local using it all year round.

When I took photography I spent many hours there. I love that park. When I volunteered to take Kindergartners there on field trips it was a delight to help them wear themselves out.

I lived in Oakland for over 40 years. I miss it, but I can’t afford to live there. It’s probably the most misunderstood city in the country.
