were considered "radical and divisive" in their day. That's why peaceful marches were met with attack dogs and firehoses.

I think a great many people, including many people who would say they believe in MLK's message, consider kneeling during the national anthem as radical and divisive because they honestly believe that the gesture is meant as disrespect to veterans and mom's apple pie, not as a peaceful, MLK-endorsed demonstration against injustice. The gesture has been demonized by the RW and to some extent in MSM when they give air time to people who do not understand what the gesture means.

And at least part of why they do not understand what the gesture means--aside from being told lies by the likes of Fox News--is that they are not "woke" (god I hope I'm using that term properly) to the fact of police murder of black men. It is my belief that they do not want to acknowledge this fact because it upsets their white-privileged view of the cops as the good guys you turn to for help when a black person appears somewhere you don't think she belongs.
