(353 posts)You, ma'am, are an educator...and a good one in my opinion. What would the salesman have learned if you had thanked him for his help and politely moved elsewhere in the store for assistance from someone else? Absolutely nothing! Had it not been for your teaching experience, the poor fellow might have continued for some short period alienating other customers, engendering poor recommendations for the store through word-of-mouth condemnation, risking demotion or firing, ultimately flipping hamburgers while rolling his eyes at the grill.
Now, that's not to say my suggested result won't be the fate of that particular fellow anyway. Some folks seem never to learn from experience, repeating the same mistakes over and over again. Why, I know of folks here in Texas that vote for Republicans...over and over again. I've come to believe that wisdom is the ability to recognize a mistake about the third or fourth time you make it. With any luck, you may have provided a real opportunity for the eye-roller to take your teaching experience and use it as a stepping stone to a better life for him and his future customers.
I'll nominate you for "teacher of the year". Good job!
