and probably don't understand the ramifications. Do you honestly think ICE agents are going to tell them what their options are? or make sure they understand their rights in Spanish?

The fact is is that they DID cross the border and they likely are honest enough to admit that. The whole game of pleading innocent in order to possibly get a better outcome is not likely something they are familiar with or "trust", given no lawyers (for most) and the fact that they are INCARCERATED. How many do you think KNOW the difference in a misdemeanor charge and a felony?
