(23,201 posts)Will and his like have become the true R.I.N.Os because the Republican Party he was once central to is no more. It is now becoming a right wing nationalist party. Those forces were strong in the Republican Party prior to WWII. Fighting the Nazi's and Japan - when so many Americans died, strengthened our bonds with western democracies. Now the generation that knew WWII personally is almost gone, their grandchildren do not have those same ties.
And corporations become more multi-national and less American no matter what their roots once were. Corporations want stability. Western democracies once were clearly the best at delivering that. Now more are looking at China as a model for stability in the 21st century. I suspect there is decreasing commitment in the money class for democracy as a stand alone ideal.
