In reply to the discussion: Breaking Maybe? Avenatti wants to Run against Trump! [View all]The Velveteen Ocelot
(131,505 posts)So far I haven't seen much actual legal work from him, since he seems to be spending most of his time on TV talking about what he's going to do. I have practiced law, and it's difficult, time-consuming work, so I don't know how he has the time for all those interviews on CNN and MSNBC. Even if, as is likely, he has employees doing the grunt work, I never knew of any lead counsel in a major case spending much time not working on the case. And I saw from personal experience that academic success doesn't always mean practical competence. So as far as I'm concerned the jury is out because all I've seen from Avenatti is a lot of interviews and teases that didn't lead to much.
But the main point is that he's never held any elected office. He may know the theories of government, which puts him way ahead of Trump, but he's never been part of it. If he really wants to be president (and I don't think he's serious, but just trolling Trump) he should do what everybody else does: Run for and get elected to a local or state office. Make his reputation as a politician. Show people he knows how to work in that system. Get experience with the difficult and complex process of legislation. Once he's been successful as a senator or a governor then he can start talking about the presidency.
