In reply to the discussion: I'm seeing increased incidents where lefties "hit" back against MAGA people. [View all]Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)It's a given that people shouldn't throw soda on each other & steal another's hat. For one thing, that could get a person shot.
But the OP was about the overreaction of the Trumpers to an incident that was minor, in comparison to the incidents that have been caused by those on the right that resulted in physical injury and death.
I noticed that overreaction on a local community forum, where they are outraged! Shocked! How dare he do that! What's the world coming to! But they were silent during Charlottesville, where blacks were beaten up, MAGAs and supremacists were marching together, where a woman was killed & others seriously injured, or that incident where the NY young lawyer goes off in a deli about the workers there speaking Spanish, or the children being taken from their parents & incarcerated in cages, or the groups of high school students wearing MAGA hats and taunting Hispanic students in the lunchroom, etc. Remember when Tea Partiers yelled derogatory names to the Congress' Black Caucus as they entered the building...and someone spit on one them? No reaction from the far right on those incidents.
But over the top for the Sarah Sanders incident, this throwing soda & bad language incident, the "anti-American" protests, etc.
Why would they would be so outraged at incidents that pale in comparison to incidents by the far-right in recent years? It doesn't seem to be fake outrage. I am guessing that it's because they aren't used to seeing those on the left figuratively fight back. They're supposed to stand there, as usual, and take the high road. It's easier to bully someone, when the object doesn't take defensive action or bully back. They are truly surprised to see pushback.
Here's a phone msg using the N word by a far righter to a black Congressman, and a shot of a far right protestor spitting on a black Congressman:
