13. I read a book on demographics that predicted this a decade ago

The basic idea was that Turkey is made up of two populations.

There is a coastal population which retains much of Greek culture, is educated, and many have relationships and family ties to the west (Greece and Italy mostly).

Then there is an inland Anatolian population which is much more rural, uneducated and much more fundamentalist.

Population trends were the coastal group was not having enough babies to replace themselves and the inland group was having a population explosion. Eventually the religious rural group would outvote the educated coastal group and Turkey would become a fundamentalist Islamic Republic. At that point, much of the coastal population, especially the more educated part would emigrate to Europe.

Seems to be coming true.
