(96,750 posts)64. I am one of the most cynical posters on this board
I don't believe in the innate goodness of people - individuals, yes - the collective, no.
I don't believe democracy always triumphs because there is too much evidence otherwise.
I don't put any faith in the thinking that Mueller will change what's happening. I've seen a lot of investigations while keeping up with politics and the ones who should go to prison tend to not go to prison - and that with a government willing to go through the motions instead of abandoning them. We now have one that would abandon even the illusion.
But it's not over.
You're talking about adapting yourself to an authoritarian regime -
we have to go to our jobs, live our lives, raise our families, be ourselves - and in this new, dismantled America
And if you really believe that - that it is time for you to put your head down, narrow your focus, and learn to adapt - then your acceptance condemns us all.
The part about "be ourselves" - Really? How is it that I can be myself in a country that would strip me of my rights as a woman?
How can you - be yourself - in such an America if you care about the rights of others?
How can you - be yourself - in a country that no longer allows dissent?
How can you - be yourself - when everything you believe in is dismantled?
There is no room to "be ourselves" in such a world.
I despair, too. I do. Won't lie about that - but I'm not going to simply lie down for the fuckers either.

I used my free hide. There is so much I want to say, none of it good.

I'm putting my faith in my fellow Americans, not all of them, but at least a plurality of them.

They won't be able to silence us ALL. And we won't be caged willingly.

I would have asked that question myself but I'm leery of getting a hide.

It seems to me a perfectly reasonable question to ask under the circumstances.

The original poster isn't calling for action. He or she is calling for inaction.

Stop crying about it. You have no idea what others have gone through before this.
