Trump lost a lot in the 2008 recession and Putin/Russia helped him out. It's one of the reasons he won't release his tax returns. Trump is an egomaniac and couldn't stand people knowing that he's not nearly as wealthy as he pretends to be and that most of his wealth is only there because of Russian loans.
