58. I'm among many who thought nobody could be worse than Nixon.

My first presidential vote was against him. But Nixon, although paranoid and mean-spirited, was also intelligent and both politically and historically savvy. He was working on a far higher plane than Trump, and his "base" was too conservative for many of us, but they were NOT politically and historically ignorant. Nixon was notably jealous of JFK, but he had some honest reasons, and he tried to keep a grip on his pettiness. It has taken an historically ignorant, thoughtless dolt for any thinking person to realize how low things really can go.
