12. I think they choose it mostly because it is a very high profile release

I think Holmes did what he did primarily for attention and the Batman opening was the most hyped film opening of the year. In the second film there was a scene in which the joker got arrested and then revealed that he had a bomb set to explode elsewhere in the city and Holmes clearly tried to copy that scene when he rigged his own apartment with bombs. While he did use the second Batman film as influence however I think he primarily did that because he knew it would bring him extra attention, I don't think they are really doing this because of the movie they are just looking for a way to get their name in the news and Batman gets a lot of media attention.
