(85 posts)Kirsten was one of the first to come out strongly against him, even before the illustrious Facebook post, and reports I saw at the time indicated she had a strong hand in organizing the quick GTFO response. Which is why most statements followed her official one.
But more importantly than that, as far as the anger directed at her, she was one of the very few on that list of Senators who was going to make a strong and serious run for the nomination in 2020. Interestingly enough, another early vociferous critic was Harris, who too is reportedly considering a run.
It all really smelled bad to many of us when prior to Roger Stone's buddy bringing up the story and picture (of him not touching her breasts BTW), because Al Franken had emerged as a legit contender for 2020. This fact and Al's ability to get under the right's skin verbally, was why he was a target. He was becoming a star. So when you have another Democrat not wanting to give the man time to defend himself who also is a leading contender for 2020, it came off very self serving ...because it was.
This will always to me be utter trash, given the scum we are up against and what they will do to win: "While Senator Franken is entitled to have the Ethics Committee conclude its review, I believe it would be better for our country if he sent a clear message that any kind of mistreatment of women in our society isnt acceptable by stepping aside to let someone else serve."
So he took the sword, walked away. And the weekly stories then stopped (of course they did). At which point you can then realize Mission Accomplished - the Democrats were rat fucked out of one of the best Senators they had and Gillibrand's path to the the 2020 presidential nomination was easier.
I think she will find that the opposite happened though ...there is so much anger out there over it.
