(2,322 posts)False equivalency AND false charge of hypocrisy: (1) we don't always know where the gas in our car comes from and likely it comes from Canada or even here in the U.S.--we still do produce oil--so the two are not necessarily equal. (2) Unlike a chicken sandwich from a particular place--which we can do without--we can't always do without gas--though many of us may be trying by supporting solar power--and politicians like Obama who are trying to free us from foreign oil (false equivalency AND false charge of hypocrisy). (3) If we vote in a president and other politicians who are pro-gay, then they can change the homophobia in other countries--but if places like Cick-Fil give our money to people who hate gays, then those in office won't even try to change those other countries polices. Whether we buy oil or not won't change the policies of other countries nearly as much as a president will who can give and withhold foreign aid. Hence, by making sure our money goes to pro-gay politicians, we are helping to stop homophobia elsewhere (again, false charge of hypocrisy).
