You do realize that the jobs to make mars possible will increase the size of our economy and probably do a great deal in fixing things on earth? More scientist and techs going into those fields will do even more of the same.

Basic economics 101. Food stamps going to the stores is yet another economic grower in the same sense. Think about it.
