(53,441 posts)but it also wouldn't be as cheap as other countries either. We would save money by better negotiation for prices of drugs, devices, hospitals, and physician services. Plus we would have lower administration costs and better incentives to pay for preventive care which saves money in the long run. On the other hand we have an insane gun problem which is horribly expensive in terms of medical care. One study showed that Louisiana spends more on care of gun shot victims than on its entire Medicaid program. Also, given the rate of debt that many of our doctors have there is a limit to how low physician fees can fall. I would think we would fall somewhere in the 80% of what we spend now. We would still have the most expensive health care system in the world.
