I haven't seen that he called the 63% birthers but in the op he didn't call the 63% ridiculous. the quote's right there.

...calling the issue "ridiculous" in response to a question about the 63 percent who are demanding Mitt release his tax returns (the issue), then he is saying that the 63 percent are making a "ridiculous" demand.

I find the attempt at nuance over this to be quite silly. The OP makes a valid extrapolation.
