(3,534 posts)He was one of the main characters in a sad era of American politics. I never bought his maverick act or his "decent' act. When push came to shove he was an arrogant war monger who never really bucked his party or the status quo. he was anti Trump because he was jealous of him getting elected when he couldn't. Whenever I think of the million or so dead from Iraq I think of him. He is right up there with Henry Kissinger as a war criminal in my mind. He always was allied with the hateful right wing bigots and his whole 2008 campaign was mostly about racism. The fact that he stayed away from racism, himself, doesn't change the fact that he laid down with the dogs. Only in America would experience bombing people and being a POW count for qualifications for the Office of President.
Having said that, it s pointless to flog him in the militarily brainwashed American mind. We need to let it go amd move on.
