20. Combining parts of Alachua County with parts of Marion County
Sat Aug 25, 2018, 03:41 PM
Aug 2018

evens out the voter registration numbers, to roughly the same number of democrats and republicans. Alachua County has voted for the democrat for President in the last 7 elections, at went narrowly for Bush Senior as the last repugh to win it. Marion County is roughly the opposite, in the last 58 years, Kennedy and Carter in 76 are the only democrats to win Marion County, President Obama came the next closest in 2008. The margin for the republican has increased, with Trump hitting a high in 2016. What the area needs is more high tech businesses, right now it is stodgy warehousing, distribution and healthcare delivery. If we can shift the demographics to younger, better educated, we can begin to eliminate the republican advantage in Marion County and mirror Alachua County more.
