Getting even - vengeance - is the only thing he cares about. He's an evil man and nothing will stop him from getting revenge for any perceived insult no matter how petty. He actually says this in his book "The Art of the Deal" which I've read, and maybe in other books which I haven't read.
Revenge was his motive for running for president, to get back at Obama for what he decided was a major insult. The fact that he insulted Obama first and in a huge way, makes no difference. Obama told a few jokes at Trump's expense at the White House media correspondents' dinner in 2011. It's sort of like a roast where people get up and say funny teasing things, and nobody takes it seriously. Until Trump took it seriously, and now we'll never be the same.
