Nor is Putin/GRU/FSB/Fancy Bear the only actor in this tragic comedy.
When you go to work, you may open a couple of doors. Your end goal isn't to open a door, but to go to work. Putin's Russia is dividing us because there is a goal at work here... to turn us into a failed state.
One where we are paranoid of people of different colors and religions.
One where the worst heterosexual is still 'better' than the best GLBTQ person and where the lowest white person is still 'better' than any person of color
One where the present is hated, the past is glorified, and the future could be some simulacrum of this glorified and romanticized past if we work at it... maybe.
One where scientists and educators are distrusted and instead people go to hucksters and charlatans for things they do not know... Alex Jones, Breitbart, Flynn, Shoebat, Trump, etc.
One where compassion, not acting like Patrick Bateman from American Psycho, or not showing a willingness to sacrifice your life for billionaires becomes "class warfare", "socialism", or "liberalism" which you are supposed to hear and reflexively boo and hiss to.
Let's hypothetically exacerbate these conditions... What would happen to our country? I think it would cease to exist in it's current form. Division is just the means, destruction is the end.
