McCain and a few other Senators, notably Ted Kennedy, maybe Moynihan, [View all]

O'Neill, Inouye, depending on your point of view, have been called "lions" of the Senate. These were iconic senators who devoted many years to the job, and eventually became venerated for their contributions. McCain and Kennedy were definitely lions (and Al Franken could have become one, had it not been for ... never mind, don't get me started...). There aren't any more lions. There are only sheep, weasels, rats and snakes.
