Andrew Gillum is now the first African American nominee for governor in Florida.
Gillum pulled off a historic upset against Gwen Graham. He'll now face Republican Ron DeSantis — backed by Donald Trump — in November's general election. More live results: https://politi.co/2wtv1T5
...this is an indication that young folks and minority voters are turning out, with big victories for Gillum in Miami-Dade and Broward. Gillum also surprised in Jacksonville (Orange Co.) and Lee.
This is also a wake-up call to the Democratic party to give more heed to progressive voters, and to work to expand our voter base by appealing to these newly emerging voters who put Gillum over the top; energized, younger, more diverse, potential voters for the general election.
