but of course some people would say a return to "traditional values" would be for the "social good of all."

Then again perhaps I should be clear is that statement intended for discussion on boards like this, or is it an argument we should put forth in America as a whole? If it is the former than I retract my quibbles; this question only arises if we are talking with people who have very different ideas about what the "social good of all" entails.
