Roanoke, VA is in the mid-western part of Virginia. The Roanoke Colony ( The Lost Colony) was near Manteo, North Carolina which is hundreds of miles away. The trial has to be in the specific Federal district where the charges were filed, I believe.

Manafort wants to move the trial because that part of Virginia is conservative. He saw that the jury convicted him on 8 out of 18 charges and that on the remaining 10, the vote was 11-1 to convict. Manafort knows he's got trouble ahead. I hope he can't sleep at night.
