There are twenty-five in Northern California. There might have expanded nationally, but they process their own beef, and it's never frozen, so they built around their core meat processing facilities.
The first one in Northern California opened up down the road from me, and my neighbor, a native of Pasadena, swore by it. I visited it, and, well, I simply wasn't impressed, "What's the big deal?".
Hell, even Huell Howser's visit didn't sway my opinion:

Yeah, I've never been impressed with them either. The Habit is SO much better. So is Hook Burger.

I used to laugh at the George Foreman grill, until I actually got one years back. It worked well.

Never stepped foot in one of their joints. IMO, we have better burger joints in the Bay Area.
