18. Not compared to Sarah Palin

More on a par with John Edwards. Both John Edwards and Joe Leiberman were picked because it was thought they could generate excitement among some group. In Edwards' case, he was nowhere near the enthusiastic, charming candidate he was in the primaries. He failed to do several things the campaign asked him to and clearly intended to use the VP nomination to set himself up for 2008. Leiberman did create excitement in Jewish communities, but he was absolutely terrible in the debate with Cheney. He managed to make Cheney seem almost a nonthreatening grandfather type!

Palin lacked the character, temperment and intelligence to serve as president. Leiberman would have made decisions we would have hated on foreign policy. However, had Leiberman replaced McCain, a Republican President, we would have agreed with him on many issues - especially climate change. Replacing Al Gore, we would have hated that he was so hawkish, but that was not obvious back in 2000. Similarly, Edwards' character issues were not obvious in 2004.

Always called him whinerman...... Ninga Sep 2018 #1
