the bigots intended their maltreatment of the issue and of kaepernick and of other kneelers as punishment.

clearly it's not a very effective punishment if they're only making him more valuable for endorsements.

this is a bit of revenge in the traditional sense ("the best revenge is living well" ) and a small step towards undermining the power the bigots hold.
