Owens proudly wore his Trader Joe's name tag to appear on Good Morning America on Tuesday. He also wore a Yale hat in a tribute to the school which he graduated from in 1983 and where he has taught acting in the past

Geoffrey Owens breaks his silence after being job shamed and says he's proud of his work at Trader Joe's
Geoffrey Owens, 57, has been working part-time at Trader Joe's for 15 months
He took the job because it allowed him to still teach and go on auditions
Last week, a fan pictured him bagging groceries at the store in New Jersey where he worked
Photos spread rapidly and many were accused of job shaming the former star
Owens said on Tuesday that he has never been ashamed of the work
He said he is happy his story has encouraged talk about the 'dignity' of a job
The star also revealed he has not had an acting job which lasted more than 10 weeks since 1992, when The Cosby Show wrapped
He quit his job last week in light of the unwanted attention he has received
