Why Republicans cannot make the economy an issue in this election? [View all]

If we had been coming out of a crash, like the one in 2009, and the unemployment numbers and growth rate were doing as well as they are now, it would be a big advantage for them.

However, we were not coming out of a deep recession and the economy was not in terrible shape when they took power last year. Most folks see little difference in the way they were living under Obama and under Trump, economic-wise. They know that most of the taxcuts went to the top 1% and that Republicans increased the deficit by hundreds of billions of dollars to give it to the very top. It's not an issue they can easily sell.

So, it is not possible for them to say look how much better you are doing now than how you were doing under Obama. In my opinion, that is why the "booming" economy is not an issue.
